A Scientific Visit of the Interior Design Engineering Department Students to Jalil Al-Khayyat Mosque
The second-stage Interior Design Engineering Department students organized a site visit on Wednesday (January 31, 2024) to Jalil Al-Khayyat Mosque in Erbil. This visit was held as part of their Islamic Art course, under the supervision of the course instructor Assistant Lecturer Aws Ahmed. The students received a warm welcome from Mr. Ahmed, the administrative office staff of the mosque, who provided them with the opportunity to tour the inside of the mosque. This was followed by his detailed explanations of the plans, structural system of the mosque, the materials used for the external facades, and the decorations in the interior design.
In addition, the students learned about the fundamental elements that make up the mosque, the types of domes and their number, as well as the mosque’s minarets and their height. They also gained knowledge of the circulations inside the space. The visit concluded with a review of the mosque’s spaces and functions, encompassing administrative rooms and halls used for religious events located within the mosque.
The visit aimed to introduce the students to the location and enhance their understanding of the space they are currently studying in the course. This experience has a positive impact on their design abilities, broadening their perceptions and enabling them to provide constructive criticism when evaluating any visited space.
