The Department of Nutrition carried out many scientific, practical and entertainment activities under the supervision and implementation of the academic staffs and the participation of the students of the Department during the academic year 2018-2019 for the purpose of developing the academic staff and raising the scientific and cultural level of students as well as the raising nutritional and health education for students and for the community as follows:
First: Activities of the academic staffs of Nutrition Department:
1- The Nutrition Department organized a two-day workshop in cooperation with the Food Organization for Awareness and Health on 16-17/10/ 2018 on the occasion of World Food Day. In this workshop, many seminars were given on food, nutrition, and public health.
2- The Nutrition Department, in coordination with the University of Plymouth, UK invited two faculty members from the above-mentioned university to participate in the International Conference (BIOHS’19), and give a seminar and a workshop at Cihan University.
3- The academic staffs of Nutrition Department actively participated in the international conference on Biological and Health Sciences (BIOHS’19) held at Cihan University on 30/4 and 1/5/2019.
4- The academic staffs of Nutrition Dept. participated in the workshop of Infection Control in Hospitals on 1/5/2019 held at Cihan University as part of the international conference.
5 – The academic staffs of Nutrition Department participated in 1/5/2019 in the workshop on Psychological of University Students, which was held at the University of Cihan – Erbil as part of the international conference.6. The Nutrition Department organized and participated in the workshop on “Scientific Writing Skills for Biomedical and Environmental Scientists” On 2/5/2019 held at Cihan University- Erbil in cooperation with the University of Plymouth, UK. 7. The Department of Nutrition at Cihan University organized a seminar for Professor Richard Handy from the University of Plymouth, UK, on 2/5/2019 on the safety of food and absorption of Nano-materials in the digestive tract and assessment of toxins and their impact on health.
Second: Students activities of the Nutrition Department:
1- A scientific visit was organized by the Nutrition Department for the second stage students to the Danone dairy factory in Erbil on 26/11/2018 to familiarize students with the rules, hygienic conditions and safety followed by the company.
2- The students of the second stage of Nutrition Department had been invited on the 9/12/ 2018, by the CMC Hospital to attend Seminar, which was presented by Dr. Sherzad Ali, on diabetes (Type II) and its relationship with healthy food.
3- The students of the Nutrition Department at Cihan University participated on 12/12/2018 in an exercise workshop on the use of the body mass index to determine the ideal weight of the individual and the classification of the indicator for each person and how to prepare three meals based on 2000 calories.
4- The Nutrition Department, in coordination with the Center of Health Education, conducted a workshop on 20-21 / 2/2019 for the students of the first stage. During the two days, the students were introduced to the basic principles of first aid and their importance in the life of the community members.
5- Students of the Nutrition Department on 25/2/2019 organized a scientific visit to Medline Medical Laboratory to introduce students to the principles and quantitative measurements of some nutrients in the human body by using the latest equipment innovations and used in these laboratories.
6- The Nutrition Department on 2/4/2019 organized a scientific trip to DLBA Company for producing dairy products for the second year. The purpose of the visit was to observe the steps of the manufacture of dairy products as part of the practical lessons in the department.
7- On 14/4/2019, a scientific trip was organized by the Nutrition Department at Cihan University to the Hawler Teaching Hospital for the second stage students to introduce the students about the hospital’s instructions and patient guidance.
8- The academic staffs and students of the Nutrition Department organized a workshop entitled “Towards a Better Life” on the university campus on 21/4/2019 where the posters of students and healthy food prepared by the students were presented in the laboratories of the department.
9-The students of the Nutrition Department actively participated in Cihan University Festival, which was held at the Shanadar Park on 27/4/2019. The students presented the prepared food products and posters. On this festival, a variety of activities were conducted including scientific, artistic and entertainment activities.
