Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Presented a Seminar on The Effects of Energy Drinks on Students’ Health and Academic Performance
On Sunday, February 9, 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, a group of fourth-year students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil presented a seminar titled The Effects of Energy Drinks on Students’ Health and Academic Performance at Rizgary High School for 12th-grade students.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Aram Ahmed, who introduced them to the students there and expressed his appreciation for their efforts. During the seminar, they explained energy drinks’ short-term and long-term effects on the body, emphasizing how their high caffeine and sugar content can impact concentration, sleep quality, and overall academic performance. They also discussed the health risks of dependency and overconsumption, including increased heart rate, anxiety, dehydration, and metabolic imbalances.
The seminar highlighted how energy drinks can lead to fatigue, poor focus, and long-term health concerns, particularly among young students. Additionally, the students provided healthier alternatives to boost energy naturally, such as proper hydration, balanced meals, and sufficient sleep.
This seminar was beneficial for both the participants and the presenters. For the participants, it provided valuable knowledge about making informed dietary choices and understanding the risks of highly caffeinated beverages. For the presenter, it was one of the ways to develop their communication and presentation skills while promoting healthier habits among young learners.
