Participation of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department in the Campaign to Combat Obesity

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department of Cihan University – Erbil participated in a campaign to combat obesity, raise awareness about its associated dangers, and promote scientific and healthy strategies for weight management.

This campaign was held under the supervision of Dr. Sama Barzanji, the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan region, in coordination with Cihan University – Erbil and Dr. Hazhen Clinic for Sports and Nutrition.

Two hundred people participated in this campaign from different governorate sectors, such as Erbil Police, Erbil Tourism Directorate, Makhmor Education Directorate, and Erbil Governorate.

This campaign included a survey on the obesity rate among Erbil citizens, which was almost 6%. It also comprised lectures, recommendations, and diets for the participants, designed by nutritionists and dietetics.

In addition to the campaign, another activity was held in the presence of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department staff and students. A greeting speech was delivered by the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Cihan University – Erbil, explaining the department’s policy to encourage such a campaign for community service to reduce the risk factor of obesity among Erbil citizens, ensuring a healthy, happy, and active society.
