Cihan University – Erbil received a group of students and teachers from Shkodar High School
The Biomedical Sciences Department, Cihan University – Erbil received a group of students and teachers from Shkodar High School on 17 March 2022. They were warmly welcomed by the Head of the aforementioned department, Dr. Ali M. Hussein.
The visit began with the Introductory Session by Dr. Ali M. Hussein in which he gave a detailed introduction of the department, its structure, and the Biomedical Sciences field. This session is beneficial to the students, as it provided them with an in-depth understanding of this field. It is interesting to see how the students seemed very enthusiastic about this field right after this session, and they were looking forward to participating in the next activities of this visit.
The visit was later followed by a tour session within the departmental setting. The tour was guided by Ms. Sabat Mustafa Mohammed, one of the staff from the same department. The Department of Biomedical Sciences is pleased to offer this guided tour intended to introduce the department’s facilities and services.
Ms. Sabat then familiarized them with two different laboratories, namely Medical Microbiology and Human Physiology. At Medical Microbiology Laboratory, they were introduced to Assistant Lecturer Ms. Hevi Seerwan Ghafour and Lab Assistant Ms. Lava Sardar Khatab. They provided the students with explanations regarding the important functions of this laboratory and the procedures involved in detecting, culturing, and diagnosing bacteria as well as diseases.
At Human Physiology Laboratory, however the students were given the opportunity to see how one of the most common tasks, that is, Blood Grouping is carried out at this laboratory. The steps to perform this task ranging from its beginning to end process were explained by Ms. Nashmil Omer Abdullah. The students enjoyed visiting both laboratories.
The visit ended with a thank you message expressed by the teachers and students to Dr. Ali M. Hussein and all the team members as a mark of appreciation for everything that had been provided to them during the visit. The teachers also conveyed their satisfaction with this educational visit, especially it increased the students’ knowledge and interest in the Biomedical Sciences field.
On the other hand, Shkodar Middle School students visited the Department of Civil Engineering, The visit included students touring campuses, visiting university departments and classrooms, and had the opportunity to meet with some of the university’s teaching staff, ask some questions and gain general information about the study process. Later, the students visited the laboratory department of the Civil Engineering Department, which includes the concrete laboratory, roads, soil and hydraulic laboratories where Mrs. Mais Abdul Razzaq Ibrahim explained in detail about each laboratory and the available equipment and the type of tests that can be carried out and the purpose of each experiment.
