Cihan University–Erbil Organizes A Large-Scale Solidarity Gathering in Support of Western Kurdistan (Rojava)
Driven by national duty and a deep sense of solidarity with the resilient people of Western Kurdistan (Rojava), Cihan University–Erbil organized a major solidarity gathering to protest the recent wave of oppression, occupation, and forced displacement policies imposed by the Syrian government against the Kurdish population in those regions.
The gathering, held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, was led by Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University–Erbil, and attended by University Council members, faculty, staff, and a vast number of students. In a powerful display of unity, students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds wore traditional Kurdish attire, conveying a message of shared struggle and national identity.
Participants strongly condemned the systematic human rights violations and the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region. They called upon the international community, global decision-makers, and human rights organizations to break their silence and take immediate action to halt the policies of forced displacement and demographic change, while advocating for the protection of the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people.
At the conclusion of the event, the university leadership emphasized the strategic role of academic institutions in supporting national causes. It was highlighted that Cihan University–Erbil serves not only as a center for scientific excellence but also as a national bastion dedicated to fostering a generation that is politically and socially aware of its people’s fundamental issues.
The participants reaffirmed that such moral support will continue until peace and stability are restored to Western Kurdistan, and until all displaced persons can return to their ancestral homes with dignity, free from the threats of occupation and persecution. This activity stands as a clear testament to the unity of the Kurdish people in the face of any challenges targeting their identity and existence.
