Conference Sessions“ New Trends in Linguistics and English Literature “
The axis of languages in the conference fell in to two sessions. The first session was held on the hall of Library 3, Saad’s Place, In the first day at 12:00 a.m. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abbas Jawdat Raheem of Mosul University and the reporter was Dr. Imad R. Madhat of Cihan University. Seven Papers were presented and twenty minutes were given for each paper. The first paper Presented was entitled “Villains, Victims, labels and Euphemisms:An Analysis of Al- Jazeera Terror Terminology Variation by Event and Audience “ by Asst.Prof. Dr. Ghayda Al-Ali from George Town University, USA. The subject concerns the terminology that is used by Al- Jazeera.
The Second paper in the first session was presented by Prof. Dr. Waria Omar Amin from the Kurdish Academy. The paper is entitled “Morphosyntactic Construction In Kurdish “ The paper tackles a syntactic phenomenon, i.e. the tenses used in one sentence in Kurdish. Question 1(Asst. Prof. Irfan Sa’eed / Cihan University ) Can we use or have two tenses for one sentence in Kurdish? Answer: No, but we can reverse the aspect in one sentence. Question 2: (Asst. Prof. Dr. Marwan N. Twfiq / Mosul University) What about the passivity? Is it affected by the tense? Answer: No, the tense is not affected, but the order of words is changed. The Third paper was in Literature. It was presented by Prof. Dr. Sabah Atallah Diyaiy from Baghdad University. The Paper is entitled “I try to create a space for my selves”: The Quest for Identity in Adrienne Kennedy’s Funny house of a Negro “ The paper deals with a case of racism. A Negro woman who fights psychologically and socially to get rid of the feeling of being isolated and rejected by the white society in America. Question1: (Prof Dr. Abbass Jawdat / Mosul University) Why does the author use (myselves ) in the title? Answer: The idea is that the hero is psychologically suffering from different feelings of agony. She feels that she is more that one person. This is why she uses “ my selves”. Question 2: (Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sattam / Cihan University ) Can we draw a border line between surrealistic and realistic analysis? Answer: Yes, in many cases. Nevertheless, sometimes the borders are not so clear and there is a shared area between both of them.
