On June 19, 2026, a group of Cihan University-Erbil students conducted a field visit to the Museum of the City of Łódź to explore the historical and civilizational heritage of the region.
During the visit, the students toured various sections of the museum, which was formerly the city’s largest and most famous residential estate, known as the Poznański Palace. They gained firsthand insights into the city’s ancient history and the legacies of its founders, merchants, and artists—key figures who played a pivotal role in shaping the cultural and economic identity of Łódź. They also learned about the urban development and historic initiatives that defined the city’s growth.
The participating students, who are currently completing an academic semester at the University of Lodz, include Al-Ayham Salahaddin Basil, a 3rd-year student in the Department of English Language, and Aland Sherzad Ibrahim, a 2nd-year student in the Department of Computer Science. Their participation is part of the formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Cihan University-Erbil and the University of Lodz.
Renowned as the ‘Louvre of Łódź’ for its architectural magnificence, which features royal rooms and decorated halls, the museum was the former residence of the Poznański family, reflecting the opulent lifestyle of the 19th-century mercantile elite. The museum was also a home to the ‘Pantheon of Great Citizens of Łódź’, dedicated to world-renowned figures such as the pianist Arthur Rubinstein, the poet Julian Tuwim, and the national hero Jan Karski. Together with the extensive sections on industrial history, the museum offers students a comprehensive panoramic view of Poland’s civilizational and cultural evolution.
