An agreement was signed between Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, the President of Cihan University- Erbil and the Iraqi Ministry of Trade
The importance of scientific research in Iraq was discussed and an agreement was signed for this purpose by Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University – Erbil, on Thursday, September 9, 2024, during the reception of a delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, led by Ibtihal Hashim Sabat, Director General of the Private Sector Development Department.
In this context, Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University- Erbil, welcomed the visiting delegation and then gave a brief overview of the university’s role, scientific standing, and departmental structure. He also discussed the scientific accomplishments made from the institution’s founding to the present, with a focus on scientific research. With the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, Cihan University hopes to be able to open a new avenue for them to focus more on scientific research.
During the same meeting, Ibtihal Hashim Sabat, the Director General of the Private Sector Development Department, clarified that the Iraqi Chamber of Trade supports scientific research to advance human capabilities, foster innovation, and benefit various facets of society, according to the article 34/3 of the Republic of Iraq’s 2005 Effective Constitution. Following that, the Director General of the Private Sector Development Department Ibtihal Hashem Sabet at the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce and Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University- Erbil, signed an agreement that contained a number of significant points and clauses.
The agreement’s articles state that both parties endeavour to carry out scientific research in the areas of trade, economy, and the private sector. Other points of the agreement include encouraging students to carry out scientific research to address issues facing the commercial, economic, and private sectors, as well as developing and renewing the work and programs of syndicates and private sector organisations in Iraq.
Another section of the agreement states that the parties will collaborate with the private sector to open an annual job exhibition and will work together to train students and recent graduates in the management of small and medium-sized businesses, with a focus on starting small businesses and giving young people employment opportunities. Additionally, the parties decided to plan and oversee a variety of seminars and courses aimed at advancing careers in business, economics, and education in general.
