Nutrition and Dietetics Department Student Delivers a Seminar on Smart Nutrition for Teens
On Thursday, 30 April 2026, a fourth-stage student from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics presented a seminar titled ‘Smart Nutrition for Teens’ at Cihan School under the supervision of the Head of Department, Lecturer Tanya Salam.
The seminar focused on improving teenagers’ daily nutrition habits in a practical and age-appropriate manner. The student explained how smart food choices support energy, concentration, and healthy growth, and highlighted the importance of preparing balanced meals that include essential nutrients. The session also addressed common challenges among teenagers, such as relying on fast food, skipping breakfast, and excessively consuming sugary drinks and snacks. The presenter explained how these habits can negatively affect health and academic performance.
In addition, the seminar provided clear guidance on healthier alternatives for school meals and snacks, how to read food labels, and the importance of maintaining regular meal times. The audience was encouraged to adopt realistic steps, such as increasing water intake, choosing nutrient-dense foods, and balancing portion sizes, to support a healthy lifestyle.
The seminar ended with an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session, allowing students to share their experiences and clarify key points. The event reflected the Department’s commitment to community outreach and strengthening nutrition awareness in schools.
