A Series of Activities Introducing the Translation Field to Grade 11 and 12 Students at Sham High School for Girls in Erbil
On February 3, 2026, a group of third-stage students from the Translation Department at Cihan University–Erbil, accompanied by their Consecutive Interpreting course lecturer, Dr. Jihan Nidhamalddin Abdulsamad, introduced Grade 11 and 12 students at Sham High School for Girls in Erbil to the field of translation and related university study opportunities. They were warmly received by the school principal, Mrs. Nahla Abdulghani Shahab.
The session began with the course lecturer delivering an introductory talk on the field of translation, highlighting its importance and applications. As part of the talk, the lecturer conducted a live interpretation exercise from English into Kurdish, providing the school students with a practical example of translation skills in action.
Following this, student Mohammed Younus Mohammed provided an overview of the Translation Department at Cihan University–Erbil, introducing its academic environment and general study opportunities. The session then continued with an interactive question-and-answer activity led by student Marwan Anwar Abdullah Sharif, who engaged the school students by asking about their likes and dislikes, personal strengths, and the languages they speak and write. The school students actively participated and responded enthusiastically to all questions.
In another interactive segment, student Fatimah Adil Ataallah Halil presented several words to assess the students’ vocabulary knowledge in English, Kurdish, and Arabic, encouraging linguistic awareness and participation. Student Alhassan Hani Abdullah Najim then delivered a detailed talk on the various departments at Cihan University–Erbil, explaining how students can choose the right academic program. He also advised students on the difference between selecting a program based on personal interest and enrolling in a program recommended by the university according to high school grades, in addition to discussing career prospects linked to academic performance.
The visit concluded with the students expressing their appreciation to the school administration for their warm reception. The event ended with a group photograph to commemorate the successful educational visit.
