Architectural Design and Theories Session at the 5th International Conference on Architectural and Civil Engineering Sciences
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Cihan University-Erbil hosted the 5th International Joint Conference on Architectural and Civil Engineering Sciences in collaboration with University Putra Malaysia (UPM). The conference included a session titled “Architectural Design and Theories,” held at the university’s Court Hall. It was attended by University President Professor Dr. Amjad Saber AL-Delawi, researchers, academic staff, and scholars from both national and international universities. The session was chaired by Prof. Ts. Dr. Rahinah Ibrahim from the Department of Architecture, UPM, with Dr. Sarah Abdulkareem Salih, also from UPM, serving as the rapporteur.
Several key presentations were featured in the session. Prof. Ts. Dr. Rahinah Ibrahim, the keynote speaker, discussed integrating traditional ecological knowledge into water settlement planning, emphasizing the need for region-specific approaches to address geographical, cultural, and resource challenges. Dr. Maszura Abdul Ghafar, also from UPM, focused on the role of IoT, AI, and data analytics in smart city development and the importance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for enhancing communication and productivity in Malaysia’s Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. Assistant Lecturer Raghd Akram from the University of Nineveh presented her research on digitally reconstructing post-conflict architectural heritage, highlighting interactive 4D modeling of the Qattanin Mosque in Old Mosul and augmented reality features. Mr. Salar Sadeeq Rasheed from Duhok University explored the transformative impact of VR and AR on interior design.
The session ended with an engaging discussion, where attendees posed questions to the presenters. Prof. Ts. Dr. Rahinah Ibrahim expressed gratitude to Cihan University-Erbil for successfully organizing the conference and providing an excellent platform for academic exchange and collaboration.
