Architectural Engineering Students Conduct a Scientific Visit to Grand Majidi Mall
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a group of third-stage students from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University – Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to Grand Majidi Mall, one of the largest and most advanced commercial complexes in Erbil. The visit was organized under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed.
The students were warmly received by the mall administration, represented by Mr. Ali Zaid Salih, who delivered an informative presentation about the architectural and operational aspects of the mall. He explained the mall’s design concept, functional layout, and modern structural systems, emphasizing how the central atrium and skylight structure were designed to enhance natural lighting, visual connectivity, and user comfort.
Mr. Ali also discussed the electronic wayfinding system used within the mall, which helps visitors easily locate shops and services through interactive digital displays and directional signage. He highlighted how technology integration in architectural design improves accessibility and enhances the overall user experience.
Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed guided the students in observing and analyzing the mall’s spatial organization, circulation flow, and environmental design strategies. She emphasized how core architectural principles such as functionality, proportion, and human interaction are applied to achieve an efficient and aesthetically balanced commercial environment.
At the end of the visit, the students took detailed notes and prepared observations about the layout efficiency, user circulation, and aesthetic integration within the mall’s design.
