Biomedical Sciences Department Students Observe Modern Diagnostic Technology at Mihrabani Surgical Hospital
First-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University–Erbil visited Mihrabani Surgical Hospital on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, as part of an educational field trip designed to connect classroom learning with real clinical practice. The visit was supervised by A.L. Bakhtawar Ziad Omar.
The students were welcomed by Mrs. Khadija Abbas Hussein, Supervisor of the hospital’s Laboratory Department, who led them on a comprehensive tour of the facility. The visit began in the Phlebotomy Unit, where they learned about venous blood collection techniques and the proper selection of blood collection tubes according to different laboratory tests. Emphasis was placed on safety, accuracy, and pre-analytical procedures.
The group proceeded to the Biochemistry Laboratory, where several advanced diagnostic instruments were demonstrated, including the Cobas Pure, Rotofix 32, Cobas e 114, and Cobas c 311. In the Hematology Section, they observed the operation of a complete blood count (CBC) analyzer. The tour continued to the Parasitology Laboratory, where they were introduced to microscopic examination techniques and automated stool analysis. The visit concluded in the Bacteriology Department, where bacterial culture methods and the VITEK Compact 2 system for microbial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing were presented.
The visit ended with A.L. Bakhtawar expressing her sincere appreciation to the hospital staff for their warm welcome, professional guidance, and invaluable support in facilitating this educational activity.
