On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, fourth-stage students from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University–Erbil visited Rami Farm Dairy Factory in Barzan as part of their scientific and educational activities.
The visit was conducted under the supervision of their department head Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Hussein, and lecturers. Upon arrival, Mr. Sameer Sadiq Omar, General Manager of the factory, received the students and introduced them to the factory’s production facilities and operations.
Mr. Sameer later explained the different stages of dairy production and guided the students on a tour of the factory laboratory. Next, the students were received by Ms. Yosra Kamal Mostafa, the laboratory manager, who explained the laboratory procedures and quality control measures applied to the milk. She added that milk samples are received in the laboratory within five minutes of the milking process, where macroscopic and microscopic examinations are performed. The milk is then sent for further processing, including pasteurization. Also, samples of the dairy products are examined to ensure that they are free from pathogenic microorganisms and meet the required safety and quality standards before being distributed to the market.
Following the laboratory visit, Mr. Sameer accompanied the students to the main production facilities, where they observed the various stages of dairy processing, including pasteurization, fermentation, and packaging. He explained that the factory does not use preservatives in its dairy products and that the products are prepared and processed freshly under controlled conditions.
The students also had the opportunity to visit the farm under the supervision of Mr. Shimal Taha Ibrahim, the farm supervisor, who provided explanations about the agricultural and livestock-related activities of the facility. During the visit, the students were introduced to the fields used for cultivating hay, fodder, silage, and grasses. They also received explanations about how these materials are collected, processed, and prepared as feed. He also added that the farm produces seven different types of feed with varying nutritional values to meet the dietary requirements of the cows.
The visit ended with a tour of the cattle facilities, where the students observed the cows and the milk-collection process. Mr. Shimal explained the use of advanced machinery and automated systems in the milking and milk-collection procedures.
