Biomedical Sciences Students Participated in a Conference on Breast Cancer Awareness
A group of students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University–Erbil, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hero Ismail Mohammed and Assistant Lecturer Zahrakhan Ma’rouf Tahir, participated in the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign’ conference.
The conference, organized by the Health Peace Organization in coordination with the General Directorate of Health-Erbil and sponsored by Cihan Group, was held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Rotana Hotel in Erbil. The event was attended by Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Dr. Dlovan Mohammed, Director General of Health-Erbil, as well as several health officials and representatives from academic institutions.
In his speech, Dr. Dlovan Mohammed emphasized the vital role of awareness campaigns in promoting early detection and improving breast cancer treatment success rates. Subsequently, Dr. Noureddin Ismail, founder of the Breast Cancer Center in Erbil, delivered a seminar where he presented statistical data on the number of visitors and diagnosed cases between 2017 and 2024, highlighting a notable increase in public engagement and continuous development of the center over the years.
During the conference, the Biomedical Sciences students actively contributed by engaging with participants and providing information about breast cancer prevention. They also stressed the importance of self-examination as a key measure for early detection.
The event concluded with an honoring ceremony, during which the Governor of Erbil and the Director General of Health – Erbil recognized the speakers for their valuable contributions to the success of the conference and their efforts in promoting public health awareness in the Kurdistan Region. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to the Biomedical Sciences students in acknowledgment of their active and meaningful participation in the event.
