
Biomedical Sciences Students Promote Sugar Awareness and Healthy Nutrition Among School Children

A group of fourth-stage students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences visited Zaga Primary School on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to conduct an awareness seminar entitled “Sugar Awareness and Healthy Nutrition for Children.” The activity was organized under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Hussein, as part of the department’s community health awareness activities.
The students were warmly received by Mrs. Anita Zadoq Adam, Director of Zaga Primary School. During the seminar, Nancy Nather , explained the difference between added sugars found in sweets, sugary foods, and beverages and the naturally occurring sugars found in fruits. She also highlighted the importance of distinguishing between different sources of sugar when making food choices.
Then Hawraa Saifallden, discussed the importance of choosing healthy foods and introduced the pupils to healthier alternatives that could be selected instead of sweets and sugar-rich snacks. And Mawada Dlshad, discussed the importance of consuming fresh fruits as a healthy food choice and encouraged the pupils to include more fruits in their daily diet.
At the end of the activity, different types of fresh fruits were distributed to the pupils to encourage them to choose healthier snacks and increase their daily fruit consumption. Mrs. Anita Zadoq Adam expressed her appreciation to the Biomedical Sciences students for their valuable contribution and for promoting healthy nutritional habits among the schoolchildren.
