Business Administration Department Students Visit Erbil Public Library Zaytoon
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, a group of students from the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an educational visit to Erbil Public Library Zaytoon in Erbil. The visit aimed to familiarize students with the library’s resources, facilities, and services and to highlight its role in supporting education, academic research, and lifelong learning.
The visit was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qader. Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the library’s administrative staff, who introduced them to the library’s history. They explained that the library was established in 2004 by the Zaitoon team from South Korea as a gift to the Kurdistan Region.
During the visit, the students toured various sections of the library, including the Kurdish, Arabic, Foreign Languages, Korean, and Magazines sections. In the Kurdish Section, Ms. Farida Mohammed Khidr introduced the students to the library’s extensive collection of books and reference materials covering a wide range of subjects, including religion, linguistics, law, health, social sciences, and education, as well as other academic and general-interest topics.
She also explained the book-borrowing procedures, noting that readers are required to leave their national identity cards at the library when borrowing books. Residents of Erbil may borrow books for seven days, while those living outside Erbil may borrow them for 15 to 20 days.
The students also visited the Children’s Library Section, where Mr. Hemen Mahmoud Mustafa, a section employee, explained that the library serves children aged 4 to 16. He highlighted the availability of dictionaries and educational books designed to support children’s alphabet learning and reading development. He also outlined the library’s operating hours, which are divided into two shifts: the morning shift, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the afternoon shift, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Furthermore, the students visited the Foreign Languages Section, where Ms. Rajan Abdullah Rasul introduced them to its collections and educational resources. She explained that the section provides valuable materials for readers, university students, academic staff, and researchers, including published scientific studies, a wide range of books, and preparation materials for international English language proficiency tests, such as IELTS and PTE. The collection also includes books that support the learning of various languages, including English, German, French, and Persian.
As the final part of the visit, the students explored the Korean Section, where they learned about South Korean culture and social life through a variety of cultural materials and resources.
The visit concluded with the supervising lecturer and students expressing their appreciation to the library staff for their hospitality and cooperation. The educational visit provided students with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of public library services, explore diverse educational and research resources, and gain a deeper appreciation of the role libraries play in supporting academic development and lifelong learning.
