Cihan University-Erbil Commemorates Kurdistan Flag Day with a Special Ceremony
On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Cihan University-Erbil hosted a distinguished ceremony to celebrate Kurdistan Flag Day at the University Campus. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, and Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cihan Universities. The ceremony was attended by Vice Presidents, deans of colleges, heads of departments, faculty members, a large gathering of students, and distinguished guests.
In his opening address, Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi congratulated the attendees and highlighted the historical significance of the Kurdistan flag. He noted that the flag was historically hoisted for the first time in the city of Mahabad on December 17, 1945. Furthermore, he referenced the Kurdistan Parliament’s decision on December 17, 2009, to officially designate this date as Flag Day. Prof. Dr. Delawi expressed his pride in the university’s annual observance of this occasion, extending a special welcome to first-year students participating in this solemn event.
Addressing the student body, the University President emphasized that their primary duty in this era is to look forward and strive for the future. He urged them to contribute to the reconstruction of the nation’s infrastructure and superstructure under the shadow of the Kurdistan flag. He further stressed the importance of dedicating themselves to science and knowledge as a means of defending the flag and the homeland.
On the same occasion, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, delivered a speech congratulating the students. He encouraged them to enhance their scientific capabilities to keep pace with the era of technology and progress, ensuring that the flag of Kurdistan remains high and that they may effectively serve their people.
Following the speeches, a representative of the students delivered an address reaffirming the importance of upholding the values represented by the flag. The ceremony concluded with the raising of the Kurdistan flag by Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi and Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, alongside the guests, followed by student-led festivities and traditional dances to celebrate this national occasion.
