Cihan University -Erbil Hosts International Workshop on Air Quality and Health
The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of the Cihan University- Erbil, titled: “Air Quality, Health Challenges, and Citizen Protection.”
Organized by the Department of Medicinal Chemical Analysis, the workshop brought together experts, academics, and health professionals in the University’s Conference Hall to discuss global and regional air quality concerns, the impact on human health, and strategies for protecting communities.
The workshop highlighted the University’s commitment to contributing to international efforts aimed at tackling environmental health issues and fostering informed public health policies.
Speeches were delivered in this workshop، which was held on Monday, 7th April in the presence of Dr. Saman Barzani, Minister of Health of the Kurdistan Region Government, Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi، President of Cihan University -Erbil, members of the University Council, faculty and a large number of researchers and specialist.
Following the opening remarks, the workshop program commenced with a series of insightful presentations delivered by distinguished experts and researchers in the field.
Assistant Professor Dr. Azad Rasul, a lecturer at Soran University and a climate expert, opened the session with a presentation on “air quality, human health, toxic gas emissions, and their connection to climate change”.
This was followed by Dr. Ajoke Onojeghuo, a consultant in Geophysical Analysis at UNICEF, Canada, who delivered a compelling paper emphasizing the “critical importance of integrating climate considerations into public health planning.”
Next, Assistant Professor Dr. Sarkawt Majeed Khoshnaw presented findings from a recent study focused on “cancer risk factors and prevention, shedding light on the environmental links to the disease.”
In another part of the workshop, professor. Dr. Bushra Hussein Shnwa, a lecturer at Cihan University – Erbil, spoke clearly about how to boost the body’s immunity, while Assistant Professor Dr. Myrna Bou Hamdan, an expert in microbiology at the American University of Beirut presented her topic on “lung diseases, transmission, prevention and the impact on public health. Finally, L. Hawari Fatih Sami Dawoudi، Head of the Department of Medicinal Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University – Erbil, delivered a speech on the findings and recommendations of the researches presented at the workshop.
The workshop concluded with a rich discussion in which attendees highlighted the need for inter-scientific collaboration to improve air quality، confront health threats around the world to build a promising future، protect health، strengthen immune systems and expand environmental research.
