Cihan University–Erbil Participates in National Workshop on the Development of Scientific Journals

Under the auspices and in the presence of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a national workshop entitled “Evaluation and Development of Scientific Journals in the Kurdistan Region” was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The event brought together senior ministry officials and Vice Presidents for Scientific Affairs from public and private universities to discuss strategies for elevating academic journals to international standards.

Representing Cihan University–Erbil, and upon the direction of the University President, a scientific delegation participated in the workshop. The delegation was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Ayad Hazim Kakayi, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, and Dr. Aram Masoudi, Editor-in-Chief of Cihan University–Erbil’s journals.

In his address, the Minister of Higher Education highlighted those six scientific journals from universities across the Kurdistan Region had successfully achieved international indexing, describing this accomplishment as a significant national achievement. He urged all universities to intensify their efforts to obtain international accreditation. Furthermore, Dr. Zhala Saeed Khattat, Director General of the Research and Development Office, announced that a comprehensive evaluation of 46 journals 23 scientific and 23 humanities journals had been conducted to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.

The workshop concluded with a series of panel discussions during which representatives of Cihan University–Erbil presented strategic proposals on research development mechanisms and the enhancement of academic publication quality in line with international standards and best practices.
