Cihan University-Erbil Participates in the Annual Huawei ICT Academy Workshop
As part of ongoing efforts to develop student capabilities and align academic programs with the demands of the modern technology job market, the Huawei ICT Academy held its annual workshop at the Cultural Center of Salahaddin University-Erbil.
The workshop brought together representatives from Huawei’s partner universities across the Kurdistan Region to discuss new strategies and mechanisms for enhancing student participation in specialized courses, professional certification programs, and Huawei’s global competitions. Discussions primarily focused on maximizing the impact of these opportunities on the development of students’ practical and technical skills.
One of the highlights of the event was the participation of Dr. Firas Mohammed Zaki, Head of the Software and Informatics Engineering Department and Director of the Huawei Academy at Cihan University-Erbil. He emphasized that Cihan University-Erbil is the first and only university in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to formally integrate “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) as a core course across all 30 academic departments.
This strategic initiative by Cihan University-Erbil was highly praised during the workshop as a pioneering model for the integration of advanced technology in academia. The university’s representative outlined how it has created a seamless link between academic curricula and the professional training programs offered by the Huawei Academy. This integrated approach aims to equip graduates with cutting-edge knowledge and job-ready skills.
The workshop concluded with participants reaffirming the importance of such collaborative forums in helping the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region keep pace with global technological transformations. They stressed that these efforts are vital for nurturing a new generation of skilled, innovative professionals prepared to meet future workforce demands.
