Cihan University-Erbil Student Awarded First Place in Duhok Governorate Literary Competition
Zêrevan Tamo Bado, a third-year student in the Department of Media at Cihan University-Erbil, achieved significant success by securing first place in a literary competition across Duhok Governorate, specifically in the field of literary creativity and the novel genre.
The competition, titled “Barikana Barzani di Biyavê Dahênana Edebî da” (Barzani Competition in the Field of Literary Creation), was organized by the First Branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). The event was held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Duhok Conference Hall. The submitted works were evaluated by a specialized academic committee comprising experts and university professors, adding a significant academic and scientific dimension to the competition.
Zêrevan Tamo Bado participated in the competition with his novel ‘Berê Ademî’ (Before Adam), which, according to him, he had written two years earlier. This achievement is considered a major milestone for both him and Cihan University-Erbil, underscoring the high caliber of student talent across various disciplines.
In a statement following the award ceremony, Zêrevan Tamo expressed his hope that relevant stakeholders would support Kurdish creators and writers, particularly the youth. He emphasized: “Our writers are rich in creativity and literary output, but they face challenges in getting their works published.”
Finally, Zêrevan Tamo Bado dedicated his success to his teachers, friends, mentors, and supporters, especially his family and the soul of his late mother. He also presented it as a special gift to all Kurdish writers and intellectuals, without discrimination, and to everyone who supports the literary endeavor.
