Cihan University–Erbil Students Actively Participate in a Relief Campaign for Chamchamal Flood Victims
Within the framework of social and humanitarian responsibility, a significant number of students from Cihan University–Erbil, representing various departments and academic stages, participated as volunteers in a comprehensive fundraising campaign to support the affected residents of the Chamchamal district in the Erbil Governorate.
Throughout the campaign, the students played a pivotal role in managing field and logistical operations. Their responsibilities included receiving, categorizing, and preparing hundreds of cartons containing food, clothing, medical supplies, and other basic necessities. These activities were carried out systematically and in close coordination with relevant organizations, led by AVA Media in partnership with the Kurdistan Foundation, to ensure the rapid and secure delivery of aid to affected families. This initiative stands as a prime example of collaborative effort and reflects the students’ strong commitment to alleviating the suffering of residents in Chamchamal, Taqtaq, and Shorish, who were adversely impacted by the recent floods.
This voluntary activity by Cihan University–Erbil students—most notably represented by Karukh Saran (Second Stage) and Shakar Dildar (Third Stage) from the Law Department—directly aligns with the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, it contributes to Goal 1 (No Poverty), which focuses on poverty reduction, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which emphasizes the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable outcomes.
Through this initiative, Cihan University–Erbil reaffirms its commitment to the principle that academic institutions are effective agents in promoting sustainable development and responding to crises. Moreover, this effort reflects the University’s mission to serve the community and to cultivate a strong spirit of volunteerism and humanitarianism within the academic environment.
