Cihan University-Erbil Students from College of Pharmacy Conduct Educational Visit to Kurdistan Medical Control Agency (KMCA)
On November 26, 2025, third-stage students from the College of Pharmacy at Cihan University-Erbil carried out an educational field visit to Kurdistan Medical Control Agency (KMCA) in Erbil. The visit formed part of the college’s commitment to bridging theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world applications in pharmaceutical sciences.
The program was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Glena Abdulla and Ms. Marwa Fateh, Laboratory Assistant, who accompanied the students throughout the visit.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Mr. Sardar Salim, Administration Manager, and Mr. Essa Azad, who provided an in-depth orientation. Mr. Essa guided the students through several specialized laboratories, explaining the rigorous evaluation processes applied to all forms of medication.
A key demonstration highlighted how unknown pharmaceutical samples are scientifically compared against pure standard references, supported by KMCA’s extensive library of samples preserved in specialized refrigerators. He further elaborated on the protocols for receiving, checking, and labeling imported medicines, emphasizing the importance of temperature-controlled storage to maintain product integrity.
During the visit, students observed physical, chemical, and biological testing procedures for pharmaceutical products. Special attention was given to the role of the High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) instrument, which is essential in the analysis of both synthetic medications and herbal products.
This educational experience provided students with invaluable insights into the regulatory frameworks of pharmaceutical quality control, warehousing, and distribution systems. It also reinforced the university’s mission to prepare graduates who are not only academically competent but also professionally equipped to contribute to the healthcare sector in Kurdistan and beyond.
The College of Pharmacy at Cihan University-Erbil continues to prioritize such collaborations, ensuring that students gain exposure to modern practices in pharmaceutical regulation and industry standards, thereby strengthening their readiness for future careers in pharmacy and medical sciences.
