Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Erbil Visits Cihan University-Erbil to Enhance Academic and Cultural Ties
In a strategic move to foster and expand academic and cultural relations between higher education institutions in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Turkey, Mr. Erman Topçu, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Erbil, paid an official visit to Cihan University-Erbil on Monday, September 22, 2025. The visit aimed to explore avenues for collaboration and reinforce the existing bonds.
Upon his arrival, Consul General Topçu was warmly received by Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, and Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Cihan Universities and Institutes. The meeting, also attended by assistant presidents of Cihan University-Erbil, featured extensive discussions on the current landscape of higher education and actionable strategies for enhancing bilateral relations.
Following the initial meeting, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi conducted a comprehensive tour for Consul General Topçu, showcasing the university’s various departments, laboratories, scientific capabilities, and academic infrastructure. Dr. Al-Delawi emphasized Cihan University-Erbil’s commitment to facilitating all necessary support for strengthening its relationships with Turkish universities and establishing robust bridges of cooperation.
A significant segment of the visit included Consul General Topçu’s tour of the Cihan University-Erbil Cultural and Intellectual Center, which serves as a vibrant cultural hub within the university. Discussions at the center, held with the university president, focused on potential collaborations in cultural, fine arts, and the organization of joint exhibitions and activities.
Both parties expressed optimism for future engagements. A delegation from Cihan University-Erbil is scheduled to visit the Turkish Consulate General in Erbil in the near future to operationalize the initiatives discussed during this visit. Consul General Topçu pledged his full support to facilitate discussions with the Turkish government, aiming to forge strong and enduring partnerships between Cihan University-Erbil and universities across Turkey.
