Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil Visit Barz Private School

On Monday, February 17, 2025, as part of its commitment to applied education, students from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil visited Barz Private School under the supervision of Dr. Rebwar Ismail Ibrahim. The visit aimed to study outdoor spaces in a local primary school as a reference for the students’ assignment on designing similar spaces. This hands-on experience bridged the gap between theoretical lectures and practical application, aligning with the department’s approach of integrating theory with real-world practice.

 Upon arrival, they were warmly received by Mr. Didar Nadir Kadir, the school’s educational supervisor, and explored the site, landscape design, and outdoor spaces that complement the main building. Mr. Didar provided an overview of the school’s departments, focusing on outdoor spaces, their components, student access and utilization, and the school’s maintenance management process.

Dr. Rebwar highlighted essential design elements, emphasizing spatial and visual connectivity between entrances, courtyards, and playgrounds. He also explained the importance of selecting geometric shapes that complement the main building’s form for a cohesive and functional design.

Key aspects discussed included accessibility, safety, sustainable materials for flooring and furnishings, and properly placed parking facilities to ensure student security.

By observing and analyzing these elements, students gained insights to incorporate into their designs while enhancing their critical thinking and creativity. Designing landscapes and external spaces is a key responsibility of architects, ensuring seamless integration between buildings and their surroundings.
