Department of Interior Design Engineering Students Conduct Field Visit to Family Mall

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, students from the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a field visit to Family Mall in Erbil.

The visit was supervised by Lecturer Dr. Nagham Ismael Yahya. It was organized to help students examine the building before developing a proposal to redesign its public areas using biophilic design principles.

During the visit, the students observed the mall’s lobby, circulation corridors, and dining areas. They examined how these spaces are organized and used, with particular attention to movement, seating, lighting, and the relationship between indoor spaces and natural elements.

The students considered how the existing conditions could inform their design proposals. Their observations will help them identify opportunities to introduce biophilic design patterns and enhance the visitor experience in the selected areas.

The field visit connected classroom learning with the study of an existing commercial building. It provided students with direct observations to support their analysis, design decisions, and proposed redesign of the mall’s public spaces.
