DEPARTMENT OF MEDIA ORGANIZED A WORKSHOP ENTITLED: TASKS AND GUARANTEES DURING WARS AND CRISES

On 12-13 October 2022 (Wednesday and Thursday), the Department of Media organized a workshop entitled: Tasks and guarantees for a journalist reporter during coverage of wars and crises in Cihan University – Erbil Academy Hall.

First day of workshop, Dr. Haitham Hadi Noman at Cihan University – Erbil and Mr. Ahmed Al-Hamdani, Director of Al-Arabiya Office and Al-Hadath TV correspondent, spoke of key field experiences they had during wars and conflicts. Mr. Ahmed Al-Hamdani later explained the importance of sticking to ground rules for ensuring the safety of journalists when covering war.

On the second day of the workshop, Assistant Lecturer Ms. Abeer Mahmoud Jabbar participated in an interlocutor’s presentation, outlining the dangers of the war correspondent’s job and the key qualities a war correspondent should possess.

In addition, Ms Layla Issa Abu Al-Qasim, Lecturer at Erbil Cihan University, examined the main legal guarantees for journalists in war and conflict. Based on the results she examined, she discovered that international law guarantees the protection of journalists and what procedures guarantee legal certainty for journalists.

The workshop included many discussions and interventions related to this topic, as well as questions and requests from participants on the topic of the workshop.
