Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis Organizes Scientific Visit to Al-Shifa Laboratory

On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University-Erbil organized a scientific visit for its second-year students to Al-Shifa Laboratory under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Sally Khalil Baqer.

The laboratory supervisor, Mr. Hussein Mohammed, warmly welcomed the students and introduced them to the laboratory’s main sections. He explained the work carried out in the hematology, clinical chemistry, and serology sections.

In the hematology section, Mr. Hussein explained the complete blood count (CBC) and its components, including red and white blood cell counts, platelet count, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and red blood cell indices. He also explained the importance of these results in laboratory assessment.

In the clinical chemistry section, the students were introduced to the Fuji chemistry analyzer and learned how it is used to perform various tests. Mr. Hussein explained the procedures for measuring total cholesterol and triglycerides, from sample preparation and placement in the analyzer to reading and interpreting the results. The students also learned about the work carried out in the serology section.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to connect their theoretical knowledge with laboratory practice and become familiar with the instruments, procedures, and tests used in their field.
