Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Students Visit Elderly Care Home

On Monday, January 20, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Raghad Jomard, visited the Elderly Care Home in Erbil. This visit provided students with a practical learning experience focused on elderly nutrition and health care.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Sangar Jamal, Director of the Elderly Care Home, who introduced them to the facility’s operations. During the tour, the students visited various sections of the home, including the kitchen, where meals are prepared for residents, as well as other key facilities that support their well-being.

The students gained valuable insights into the health care services provided to elderly individuals, including daily nutritional and medical support. The staff explained the methods used to ensure the residents’ well-being, emphasizing the importance of proper nutrition in maintaining their health. A key part of the visit was observing the food preparation process and understanding how meals are tailored to meet the nutritional needs of the elderly. The students also actively participated in preparing a special lunch for the residents, further enriching their learning experience.

This experience was appreciated by both the residents and the management of the care home. It not only deepened the students’ understanding of elderly nutrition and health care but also fostered a sense of community service and social responsibility. The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil is dedicated to providing practical learning opportunities that connect academic knowledge with real-world applications, ensuring students are well-prepared for careers in health and nutrition.
