Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Visit Beirut Erbil Potato Products Company
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Yasin Mamand, visited Beirut Erbil Potato Products Company for an educational tour that provided valuable insights into food processing and industrial nutrition.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Haji Shaaban Muhammed, the company’s owner, who guided them through the entire production line. They observed key stages, including raw potato selection, cleaning, cutting, frying, seasoning, and packaging of products such as chips and French fries.
The tour highlighted advanced machinery that ensures efficiency while maintaining high hygiene and safety standards. Students gained knowledge about essential production factors such as temperature control, oil filtration, and moisture regulation to maintain product quality. They also learned about the role of food additives, preservatives, and natural flavoring agents.
An essential part of the visit focused on quality control practices and the importance of nutritional labeling. Students engaged with industry experts, discussing topics such as calorie content, ingredient sourcing, and market adaptation.
This hands-on experience enriched the students’ theoretical knowledge and offered a comprehensive understanding of industrial food production. At the end of the visit, Assistant Professor Yasin Mamand expressed gratitude to Mr. Haji Shaaban Muhammed for his valuable time and insightful engagement with the students.
