Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences Student Receives the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ Award in Turkey

In a remarkable new athletic and academic achievement, the Erbil Veterans Team secured first place and won the championship title at the Veterans Tournament held in Antalya, Turkey, following an outstanding performance throughout all the matches. The tournament kicked off on September 23, 2026, and the final match took place on September 27, 2026.

Alongside this major victory, Dedar Hamid, a second-year student in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Cihan University – Erbil and the goalkeeper for the Erbil Veterans Team, was deservedly awarded the Best Goalkeeper of the championship in recognition of his stellar performance and decisive saves.

Dedar Hamid, a former goalkeeper for both the Iraqi National Team and Erbil Sports Club, continues to demonstrate excellence on the field. This international achievement brings great pride to Cihan University – Erbil and reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting and elevating the academic and athletic success of its students across various arenas.

The Antalya Veterans Championship in Turkey is one of the prominent annual tournaments featuring the participation of numerous veteran teams across different countries, bringing together renowned former players in a spirit of strong sportsmanship and competition.

At the end of the tournament, during a special ceremony, the trophy and gold medals were presented to the Erbil Veterans Team, along with individual awards for the championship’s top performers.
