Discussion Circle for the General Education Students about “the Effects of Social Media on University Students’ Behavior”

The Department of General Education, Cihan University-Erbil organized a discussion circle for the second-year students entitled “The Effects of Social Media on the Behavior of University Students” on Thursday, September 30th, 2021 in the central library of the University under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Saman Babaker, and in the company of head of the department Dr. Ahmad Abd-Aun and Assistant lecturer Dashne Abdullah Saeed. Four second-year students, namely Wijdan Khasraw, Maryam Maher, Ali Amer and Tmara Tarq took part in the discussion.
In the context of their discussion, different parts of the topic were discussed including positive and negative aspects of using social media on students’ behaviors and their lives when they have been trying for many hours to watch news and social media that probably will affect students’ achievements in the future. Moreover, students were asked questions during the discussion, and various opinions and information regarding the topic were mentioned in the discussion.
It is worth mentioning that holding this kind of discussion meetings is one of the plans of the Department of General Education to have such activities outside the classroom for the purpose of developing students’ skills in the field of academic speaking and using English words in the real contexts.
