Electrophysical Modalities and Clinical Applications Workshop Organized by the Physiotherapy Department for Its Students
The Department of Physiotherapy at Cihan University-Erbil organized a specialized and comprehensive workshop for its students across all academic levels. Titled Electrophysical Modalities and Clinical Applications, the workshop aimed to enhance students’ theoretical and practical knowledge in the dynamic field of physiotherapy.
The workshop, held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, was structured into two main components to ensure a holistic learning experience. The theoretical session took place in VIP Hall, providing an in-depth understanding of the principles. This was followed by a hands-on practical session, conducted in the university clinic, which allowed for the direct application and demonstration of concepts in a simulated clinical environment.
Mr. Muhammad Smouko, a clinical specialist from BTL Company, delivered the workshop. Its primary objective was to equip students with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in the effective and safe use of electrophysical modalities in physiotherapy practice.
The theoretical component delved into essential topics, including the classification and underlying mechanisms of action of various electrophysical agents. Specific modalities covered include Therapeutic Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Interferential Therapy (IFT), Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), and Laser Therapy. Furthermore, the session meticulously explored their physiological effects, clinical indications and contraindications, appropriate treatment parameters, and critical patient safety guidelines.
The hands-on practical session was dedicated to demonstrating equipment setup, precise electrode placement, and comprehensive patient preparation for treatment. This practical emphasis was designed to ensure that participants gain practical competency and confidence in applying these modalities in real clinical settings, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
