English Department Students Presented an Educational Activity on English Syllables to Improve Pronunciation
On Sunday, 8 February 2026, first-stage students from the Department of English at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an educational seminar on English syllables at Karokh High School. The seminar, held under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Rozhin Hossein Hosseini, was warmly welcomed by Mr. Hiwa Mahmood Hassan.
During the seminar, the university students actively engaged school pupils in interactive, hands-on activities aimed at raising awareness of English syllables and enhancing pronunciation skills. One key activity involved arranging syllable cards to form complete words, with each card representing a single syllable. As pupils carefully pieced the cards together, they practiced pronouncing each syllable aloud, helping them master word rhythm, stress, and correct pronunciation. This method allowed students to link the visual structure of syllables with their spoken form, boosting both fluency and confidence.
The seminar effectively combined theory and practice, enabling students to understand syllables while actively applying their knowledge. Through these activities, the university students emphasized the role of syllables in achieving accurate pronunciation and effective communication. The students participated enthusiastically and expressed great enjoyment in the interactive learning experience.
