English Language Department Students Raise Awareness on Teenagers Tobacco Addiction
On Tuesday, November 18, third-stage students from the Department of English Language at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a community awareness activity to highlight the growing issue of tobacco addiction among teenagers at Impire and Sami Abdulrahman Park. The event was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Rozhin Hossein Hosseini.
Students distributed informative brochures outlining the health risks of early tobacco use and the long-term impact of nicotine addiction on adolescents. Throughout the event, students actively engaged with both locals and visitors, emphasizing the rising prevalence of teenage tobacco use and the importance of early intervention. They stressed that increasing awareness, providing accurate information, and fostering open communication between families and young people are vital steps in preventing addiction. Students also encouraged adults to serve as positive role models by avoiding smoking in front of children and supporting smoke-free environments.
The campaign made a meaningful contribution to public education by addressing misconceptions about smoking, promoting healthier habits, and supporting broader initiatives aimed at preventing tobacco addiction among teenagers.
