On Thursday, 16 July 2026, as part of an international academic training program in the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Omaer Zubir Zahir, Head of the Department of Law and International Relations, and Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qader from the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University-Erbil visited Kunming Railway Vocational and Technical College (KRVTC). The delegation was warmly received by Professor Dr. Ma Li, who guided the participants on an educational tour of the college’s specialized railway training facilities.
During the visit, the faculty members toured several practical training facilities, including the Passenger Transport Comprehensive Training Room, the Basic Train Reception and Departure Training Room, and the Comprehensive Train Reception and Departure Training Room. The participants were introduced to modern railway education and observed the practical training methods used to prepare students for careers in railway transportation and operations.
Professor Dr. Ma Li explained that China’s railway network consists of two main systems: one dedicated to passenger transportation and the other designed for freight transportation. He also presented the complete process of railway and subway manufacturing, operation, and maintenance. As part of the practical session, the visiting delegation had the opportunity to experience a railway driving simulator, allowing them to gain firsthand experience in operating modern railway systems.
During the visit, Professor Dr. Ma Li asked Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qader whether Iraq had similar railway training technologies. She replied that such advanced facilities are not currently available in the country but expressed hope that similar railway technologies and training systems could be developed in the future.
The delegation also visited a historical railway exhibit displaying a steel rail from the famous Yunnan–Vietnam Railway (a meter-gauge line), originally manufactured in 1881. According to the academic assessment of Professor Li Fu of Southwest Jiaotong University, a distinguished Changjiang Scholar and an outstanding graduate of Kunming Railway Vocational and Technical College, the rail was produced by a French steel company. The historic rail was discovered on the KRVTC campus in 2015 and represents an important part of China’s railway heritage.
The visit provided valuable insights into China’s advanced railway education, practical training methodologies, and technological achievements while strengthening academic exchange and international cooperation between Cihan University-Erbil and Chinese higher education institutions.
