On Sunday, February 16, 2025, the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Lecturer Dlan Ismail, organized a special training session at Cihan Academic Hall. The session aimed to enhance students’ skills in various fields, particularly focusing on the media’s role in spreading violence awareness. A significant number of Media Department students attended the session, which was conducted by Payraw Anwar, a human rights trainer and the head of the Training and Research Department at the Directorate of Combating Violence Against Women and Families in Erbil.
After a warm welcome and words of gratitude from Lecturer Dlan Ismail, the training began with introductions of the participants. Payraw Anwar then delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the role and importance of the Directorate of Combating Violence Against Women and Families in Kurdish society. She stressed the need for collective efforts to address this critical issue.
Participants were given the opportunity to share their views and observations on the activities of the Directorate. During the training, various forms of violence and strategies to combat them were discussed. Payraw Anwar also highlighted the negative impact of the internet and social media on family disintegration. She explained how these platforms can contribute to the spread of aggression and violence among individuals and communities.
At the end of the session, all participants agreed that raising awareness about the responsible use of the Internet and social media is important. Additionally, the need for trust and confidence in institutions working to combat violence was emphasized. To further activate these efforts, especially in terms of communication, students were divided into three groups, where they presented several observations and suggestions on how to utilize the most effective tools of media and information dissemination in today’s world.
This training was part of the Media Department’s efforts to enhance its students’ academic and intellectual growth and encourage them to actively participate in addressing social issues.
