Media Department Students Organize a Seminar for the College of Administration and Economics at Salahaddin University
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, students from the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil organized a seminar titled “Cybercrime and Prevention Methods” for students of the Finance and Banking Department at the College of Administration and Economics, Salahaddin University. The activity was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismail Mawlood.
The supervising lecturer and students were received by Assistant Professor Amir Salim Mohammed, Head of the Finance and Banking Department, along with department faculty members Midya Salah and Farhang Abdulkarim. Following a discussion on the educational process and the importance of field activities in enhancing student skills, the media students proceeded to present the seminar content.
In the first part of the seminar, Sarkar Hussein, a third-stage Media student, discussed the concept of cybercrime and its various forms in detail. He noted that cybercrime extends beyond simple hacking to include defamation, psychological warfare on social media, identity theft, and financial fraud. He also emphasized that modern-day criminals use diverse techniques to deceive users and obtain their private information.
In the second part of the seminar, Qaraman Jawhar, a third-stage Media student, highlighted methods for preventing cybercrime. He emphasized several key measures, including using strong passwords, enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), avoiding suspicious links sent via emails or messages, and regularly updating software. Furthermore, he advised students to contact the relevant authorities when facing any electronic threat and not to yield to the demands of perpetrators under any circumstances.
At the end of the seminar, the Head of the Finance and Banking Department expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the supervising lecturer and the students for conducting this scientific activity at the college. He also expressed his hope for continued cooperation between both parties to further serve the students.
