Media Students Participate in Cultural and Literary Event in Erbil

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, students from the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil participated in a poetic and literary evening. The event was organized by the Youth Center in Erbil in cooperation with the Kurdistan Chronicle organization. Under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Jamal Hama Karim.

Two students, Sarkar Hussein from the fourth stage and Hezdar Gailani from the second stage of the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil, attended the literary and poetic gathering dedicated to the author Talat Taher. The event took place in the conference hall of the Youth Center in Erbil.

 During this literary encounter, the author and poet, Talat Taher, highlighted several key themes and important topics related to the world of writing and the current state of Kurdish literature. He discussed the concept of authorship and the hardships and obstacles that writers face in this era, particularly at a time when most people tell their own stories and experiences through various available tools. At the same time, he emphasized that literacy alone is not what matters; rather, the fundamental question is what a person does with that literacy and how they utilize it to develop society. In another part of the gathering, Talat Taher pointed out the importance of using simple and fluent language in writing, ensuring that all segments and classes of society can easily understand the message. Furthermore, he addressed the issue of modernization in Kurdish poetry and literature, emphasizing the necessity of understanding the latest changes, sorrows, anxieties, pains, and even the humor and expressions of the people in this day and age, so that literary texts truly reflect the current reality of society.

At the end of the session, the poet and writer, Talat Taher, concluded the literary evening by reciting several remarkable poems.
