Medical Biochemical Analysis Department Students Conduct Health and Nutrition Awareness Activity at Havalani Têkelao Primary School
On Wednesday, 28th January 2025, a group of fourth-stage students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a comprehensive educational visit to Havalani Têkelao Primary School as part of the department’s community engagement and applied learning initiatives. The visit was supervised by the Head of the Department, Hawri Fatih.
The student team (Fatima Diyar Ahmed, Fredun Alan, and Mohammed Ibrahim) delivered a well-structured, age-appropriate seminar on healthy nutrition specifically designed for fourth-grade students. It focused on building basic nutritional awareness and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits from an early age.
During the session, the students explained the concept of a balanced diet, highlighting the roles of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals in supporting growth, brain development, and daily energy needs. Special emphasis was placed on consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking sufficient clean water, and maintaining regular meal times. The presenters also discussed the negative effects of excessive consumption of sugary snacks, soft drinks, and fast food, linking these habits to fatigue, poor concentration, obesity, and long-term health issues.
To ensure effective communication, the seminar was delivered using simple language, visual examples, and interactive discussion, allowing the pupils to actively participate by answering questions and sharing their daily eating habits. The students also provided practical advice on preparing healthy school lunches and choosing nutritious snacks.
At the end of the activity, small educational gifts were distributed to the pupils as a motivational tool to reinforce the health messages delivered during the seminar. The students were warmly received by the school principal, Mr. Rizgar Mouloud Mohammed, who expressed appreciation for the initiative and praised the students’ professionalism, clear communication, and positive engagement with the children.
