Medical Biochemical Analysis Department Students Conduct Scientific and Awareness Visit to Sava School
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, a group of third-year students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil carried out an educational visit to Sava School as part of community outreach and science awareness activities. They were warmly received by the school principal, Mr. Sahand Mustafa.
During the visit, the students introduced the school pupils to the concept of medical laboratories, explaining their importance, safety rules inside laboratories, and how laboratory tests help in diagnosing diseases as well as testing food and water quality. The presentation aimed to simplify laboratory science, making it both understandable and interesting for young students.
As part of the practical activities, the students performed engaging chemical demonstrations, including an interactive reaction between potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) and hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). The experiment was presented creatively, with potassium permanganate described as the “Purple Hero” and hydrogen peroxide as “Kind Water.” When combined, oxygen gas was released in the form of bubbles, clearly demonstrating chemical reactions and the concept of cooperation between substances.
The students also distributed educational worksheets titled “Laboratory Hero” and provided small lab-themed gifts, allowing pupils to wear lab coats and take photos. At the end of the visit, the students delivered an awareness session on the negative effects of excessive social media and mobile phone use, highlighting its impact on health, concentration, and daily behavior.
The participating students were Shnyar Yusuf Hamdamin, Aya Abdullah Mohammed, Evin Qasim Mohammed, and Alan Mohammed Falah. The visit was highly interactive and left a positive educational impact on the pupils, reflecting the university’s commitment to community engagement and science education.
