Medical Biochemical Analysis Students Deliver a Seminar on Infectious Diseases at Lana Primary School
On Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, a group of third-year students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil visited Lana Primary School to conduct an educational activity on infectious diseases and methods of prevention. The visit was supervised by the Head of the Department, Assistant Lecturer Ms. Hawri Fatih, and the students were warmly received by the school principal, Ms. Ban Haseeb Al-Dabbagh.
During the seminar, the students delivered a comprehensive explanation of how infectious diseases spread, focusing on four main routes: airborne transmission, contaminated hands, unsafe food and water, and contact with infected surfaces. They explained how bacteria, viruses, and parasites can easily spread in crowded classrooms, through shared objects, and as a result of poor hygiene practices.
The students also discussed infections commonly seen among school-aged children, including influenza, the common cold, strep throat, and tonsillitis. Each condition was described in terms of its symptoms, incubation period, and the circumstances under which a child should remain at home to prevent transmitting illness to others.
In addition, the students conducted live demonstrations on proper handwashing using the 20-second method, correct use of hand sanitizers, safe ways to cover coughs and sneezes, and how to keep school bags, lunch boxes, and personal items hygienic.
The session was highly interactive, with pupils actively asking questions and sharing their own experiences with common infections. The school administration praised the depth of the presentation and expressed appreciation for the valuable health guidance provided to the children.
