Medical Laboratory Analysis Department Students Conduct Scientific Visit to Binur Medical Laboratory
On Sunday, October 12, 2025, the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at the College of Applied Sciences, Cihan University–Erbil, organized a scientific visit for its second-year students to Binur Medical Laboratory, located in the Al-Adala neighborhood of Erbil. It was held under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Sally Khaleel Baqer.
Upon arrival, the students were received by Mr. Mustafa Ziyad Mohammed, a staff member at Binur Medical Laboratory, who provided a detailed explanation of the differences between hemolyzed and jaundiced samples. He highlighted the scientific causes of hemolysis in blood specimens and explained how to distinguish such samples visually and analytically from those affected by bilirubin accumulation. The session also covered how both hemolysis and jaundice can influence biochemical and clinical test results, emphasizing the importance of proper sample handling to prevent diagnostic errors.
Mr. Mustafa then provided an overview of the analytical instruments used in routine laboratory testing, including biochemistry analyzers, hematology devices, and reagent systems. He explained the working principles of these instruments and their importance in ensuring accuracy and reliability of test results. The visit included interactive discussions and demonstrations that enhanced the students’ understanding of laboratory operations and real-world diagnostic processes.
The visit concluded with an engaging scientific discussion between the students and the laboratory staff, highlighting the educational value of such field experiences in connecting theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills.
