Medical Microbiology Student Represents Cihan University–Erbil at Erbil International Toastmasters Academy
On Monday, 2 February 2026, a first-year student from the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil actively participated in a professional skill-development activity organized by the Erbil International Toastmasters Academy. The meeting was held at the Vanest Dental Care Centre Meeting Hall in Erbil and conducted in a hybrid format, bringing together in-person participants from Erbil while also connecting online with Baghdad Toastmasters and Tigris Toastmasters.
The student, Soz Sarchel Shafiq, participated actively and successfully delivered an impromptu speech, demonstrating confidence, clarity of thought, and effective verbal communication skills. The meeting followed the theme “Sweet Surprises,” with “TREAT” selected as the word of the day, encouraging speakers to creatively integrate the theme into their speeches and discussions. Through structured Toastmasters segments including prepared speeches, impromptu speaking, and evaluations participants practiced essential skills related to public speaking, leadership, critical thinking, and time management within a professional environment.
The event was attended by Dr. Ameena Sabah Mahmood Juma, Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil, who participated as a member and mentor. Her presence reflected the department’s continued support for student involvement in extracurricular academic and professional activities. The meeting was further enriched by the participation of Miran Bassam, a graduate of the Medical Microbiology Department and an active Toastmasters member, who shared his experience and encouraged students to develop strong communication and leadership skills alongside their academic studies.
