Medical Microbiology Students Conduct Health Awareness Seminar at Shex Mahmoud School in Erbil
On Monday, 9 February 2026, fourth-year students from the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a health awareness seminar at Shex Mahmoud School, one of the leading schools in Erbil.
The visiting students were warmly received by Mr. Shwan Saed Salim, the official in charge of Shex Mahmoud School, who welcomed the initiative and emphasized the value of collaboration between higher education institutions and schools. During the session, the university students delivered an interactive seminar highlighting the concept of vaccination, its role in preventing infectious diseases, and its contribution to improving public health. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of vaccinating children in accordance with the official Kurdistan Regional Government vaccination program, ensuring community-wide protection against preventable diseases.
In addition to vaccination awareness, the seminar addressed key aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, and disease prevention practices suitable for school-age children. The presentation was designed in a simple and engaging manner, encouraging active participation and questions from the students.
The session ended with an open discussion, during which the school students demonstrated keen interest and awareness regarding health-related topics. This activity reflected the commitment of Medical Microbiology Department students to community engagement and health education, while also strengthening the link between academic knowledge and social responsibility.
