Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Enhanced Their Practical Skills at Sarwaran Health Center
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil visited Sarwaran Health Center as part of their academic and practical training, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein. This visit provided the students with a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in laboratory diagnostics and learn about various medical tests related to the field of nutrition.
During the visit, the students were introduced to a wide range of clinical and biochemical tests essential for nutritional assessment and diagnosis. They observed and learned about laboratory tests such as complete blood count (CBC), lipid profile, blood glucose levels, liver and kidney function tests, and vitamin and mineral deficiency tests. These tests play a crucial role in evaluating nutritional status, metabolic disorders, and health conditions such as anemia, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
Additionally, the students had the opportunity to understand the importance of laboratory tests in personalized nutrition plans. They engaged with medical laboratory specialists, who explained the principles behind different tests, the significance of sample collection and analysis, and how lab results contribute to dietary recommendations and clinical interventions. This educational visit helped reinforce the students’ theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, allowing them to see firsthand how laboratory testing supports nutrition and dietetics in healthcare settings. The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil remains committed to providing practical experiences that prepare students for professional careers in clinical nutrition and healthcare.
