Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Explored Clinical Nutrition Assessment Tools and Their Applications at a Nutritional Clinic
On Sunday, February 9, 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, a group of fourth-year students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil visited a renowned nutritional clinic to explore clinical nutrition assessment tools and their applications. This visit was an integral part of their Clinical Practice course to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by a nutritionist, Aween Hewa Ali, who provided an overview of the clinic’s facilities and its patient-centered approach. Throughout the session, the students observed and participated in demonstrations of various assessment tools, including body composition analysis, biochemical testing, and detailed dietary intake evaluations. The nutritionist explained how these tools are employed to assess patients’ nutritional statuses, identify deficiencies, and develop personalized nutrition interventions aimed at optimizing health.
This practical session gave the students the opportunity to gain insights into the use of advanced diagnostic techniques in clinical nutrition. By observing the integration of these assessment tools into everyday patient care, the students deepened their understanding of evidence-based nutrition practices. This experience not only enhanced their clinical skills but also prepared them for future roles in the fields of nutrition and dietetics, where precise and personalized care is paramount.
