Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Present an Insightful Seminar at Gasha High School
On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, students from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Cihan University-Erbil presented an insightful seminar at Gasha High School under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein.
Upon arrival, they were warmly received by Miss Awin Mohammed, who introduced them to the high school students and expressed appreciation for their efforts in promoting health awareness.
During the session, the university students provided an overview of the negative effects of frequent fast-food consumption, which is often high in unhealthy fats, sugars, and sodium. They explained how this contributes to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and digestive problems. They discussed the detrimental effects of processed and fried foods on metabolism, energy levels, and academic performance, emphasizing how poor dietary choices can lead to long-term health consequences.
To make the session more interactive, the students engaged the audience in a discussion about healthier alternatives to fast food, including homemade meals, balanced diets, and mindful eating habits. They also provided practical tips on how to make healthier choices when eating out, such as opting for grilled items instead of fried foods, drinking water instead of sugary sodas, and including more vegetables in meals.
The seminar concluded with an open Q&A session, where the students’ addressed questions about meal planning, portion control, and ways to reduce dependence on processed foods.
